THE PLEASURE AND PRIDE OF INDIGIQUEERNESS: PAINTINGS FROM A QUEER NDN BABY
Natalie King, a queer Indigenous painter reflects on her arts practice and the people in her community who inspire her work. Through vibrant colours, empowering regalia, fruits, and medicines, painting is the artist’s way to represent the past, present, and future and a way to honour and celebrate life outside the tropes and expectations of Indigeneity within “Canadian art.”

BLACK WOMEN UNDER STATE
Idil Abdillahi’s book, Black Women Under State: Surveillance, Poverty & the Violence of Social Assistance centres on the realities of Black women, both in-process and theory, who are living at the intersections of race, poverty, surveillance, and social services. The article highlights the experiences of Black women in academia, positioning epistemology (the theory of knowledge) as a narrow set of criteria that limits and excludes the voices of Black women.

WOMEN TALKING: LEAVING ISN’T THE HARDEST PART
In the film Women Talking, a story unfolds concerning a group of female survivors living in an isolated religious community where women have no voice. Through an analysis of Women Talking, this essay weaves between the stories that inspired the film and a personal reflection that recalls the writer’s own experience of the aftermath of living in a cult.
